“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2
The Heart of Stone

God, I touched a heart of stone;
Knocked, like You, to find it closed.
But I know such rotting bone
And rotting flesh can be opposed.
I pray it’s just a false-built front;
Softness still the very core,
For daily they their future daunt.
O God, I know You own the cure.
God, rid them of their heartly crust!
Bring the Stone to useless rust
That they might seek the Flesh version
And welcome in the waiting Son.
I pray, God, that You knock again –
Now I know the pain You feel –
And I hope the knock remains
To echo through the Will of Steel.
Pray and knock. Is this our quest
To try with You to crack the door?
Perhaps the answer’s in the rest –
To stand with patience; to endure.
Stand and knock. This sacrifice
Of time and hope and faith to etch
An invitation on this life
That grace will find the helpless wretch.
Knock, my Jesus. Steady knock;
Through years, petitions keep You there,
That soon this deaf and hardened rock
May break before Your righteous prayer.

To Whom We Pray
A Rushing Wind; a flaming Tongue;
The Hope to which the Praying clung –
A writing Hand; a Still, Small Voice.
Hear and heed, O Praying’s Choice!

Jesus Doth Pray
Jesus’ prayers daily carry me on.
Soul, be indebted to the victorious Son!
A prayer for me He breathes each day.
Jesus, I beg You – continue to pray.
Pray for Your Bride; Your Temple; Your kin!
Pray Your holy ways on earth to begin.
Pray for Your people; the Lost and Downtrod.
Bear Your family forever to God.
Pray when I pray, Lord;
Pray when I don’t!
Pray when I’m weary
And others just won’t.
Carry us further beyond the cursed Tree –
It’s become a blessing to others and me.
Pray o’er us, Jesus!
Pray when we can’t.
Sing us a Psalm
From Your victory’s chant.
May we go leaping from day to day,
Since we know with confidence: Jesus doth pray!

Broken and Bound
Let me be broken, God, before You –
Before Your grace and endless love;
Before Your truth and splendid beauty,
Let me be broken for above.
Let me be broken, Christ, beside You –
Behold You broken on the Tree.
Let me be broken – will and spirit! –
You were broken, Christ, for me.
Let me be broken, Holy Spirit;
In heart and thought, be bent to You.
Let me be broken – and by You, mended! –
You are sent for my rescue.
Let me be bound, My God, unto You –
You are bound in love to me!
Let me be bound, my Christ, into You –
You were bound to Calvary.
Let me be bound, dear Holy Spirit –
In heart and thought, be bound anew.
Let me be bound, and found, in faith,
Unbroken in my love for You.

The Crimson River
Let the Crimson River flow!
May It clothe the earth below.
Drown us in Its crimson wave;
Take us down into Your grave.
Let the Crimson River run;
Drain the Holy, Incarnate Son.
Plunge us in Its cleansing power.
Make us witness Its Deathly hour!
Let the Crimson River stream;
Course Its way in Righteous gleam!
May we die beneath Its flood –
This precious Tide of Jesus’ blood.
Die and live! This is our plea:
“Let the Crimson Tide flow free!”
Remember, God, looking below
That Crimson Red does o’er us flow.
And let us share this Holy Stream
With those who value Flesh’s Dream;
Live upon the Crimson Shore –
Beneath our frames, This our Crimson Core.

Kneel, My Soul
Kneel, my soul, before the King;
Bring as gift your everything.
Set before Him your self-will;
Cause your selfish pride to still.
Kneel, my heart, before the King!
Ever echo His praise to ring.
Do not pray like an ignorant fool!
Just live this day as a Godly tool.
Kneel, my will, before the King!
What glorious offering could you bring?
Silently, write His pleasure down
To remember what your prayer has sown –
What height of glory your mind does seek –
But kneel, my mind, lest pride will speak.
Kneel, my soul! Kneel in weakness.
Kneel, my soul, in humble strength.
Kneel in poverty and in fortune.
Kneel your entire, life-long length!
Kneel in servitude and in power;
Kneel in loneliness and in joy.
Kneel in praise and adoration –
Whatever tasks your life employ.
Kneel in holy reverence, kneel!
Kneel in prayer and prayerful thought.
Kneel before the faithful King –
Alone worthy of what you’ve brought.
Kneel, my soul, in reverent wonder!
Kneel in love and grateful song.
Kneel, and glory in His presence;
Kneel, for here’s where you belong!
Kneel in awe and fearful wonder;
Kneel in holiness so pure.
Kneel and listen. Glory! Glory!
On your knees, O soul, endure!
