The Hush of God’s Voice
1 Kings 19:7-8
Not in the wind; Not in the quake;
Not in the flame nor the mountainside break.
Fiercesome the power and terror of God.
So, turn away eyes in the wrap of your shod.
Stand in the entrance and hear Him call out.
Behold His question and feel Him about.
Reason His Spirit and answer in Truth:
“Alone do I hide from a Nation’s reproof.”
“Alone do I tremor; alone do I cry –
Alone I am dwelling to wish I could die.”
“But what are you doing, servant below?”
His question my hopes all but does overthrow.
And by it my life is lifted from grief,
Away from my joy’s suffocating thief.
My Lord cries to me with purposed address:
“Go on your way to the next wilderness.”
And there I can follow with footsteps assured –
There can my Spirit be sweetly allured.
For He goes before, above and behind;
Not in the earthquake but Still Voice divined.
“But what are you doing, servant below?”
What a convicting sentence to grow.
If not on my way to His directed place,
Where am I headed to gather His grace?
Not in the wind; Not in the quake;
Not in the flame nor mountainside break,
Do I find my salvation or dwelling of choice.
It only resides in the hush of God’s voice.

The Child in Their Midst
An unknown face that gazed in wonder;
An ungiven name that Jesus knew;
A figure who made the disciple-men ponder –
An example in childly innocence, true.
Waiting amid the surrounding crowd, eyeing;
Watching Him keenly, the point to be clear –
Listening to wisdom; pure forms of discerning,
They opened their hearts to words they would hear.
Though used by Jesus in ministry, great,
As a light of faith to all gathered near,
Will the child forsake his spiritual estate
When the world becomes harder to bear?
Will he remember this moment of life
When grown, as time takes hand?
Or shall he be weighted by sinful strife
Because he did not understand?
As the tale is read in quiet fascination,
The truth of the message we see:
To remain in spiritual, child creation –
Never unfaithfully to be.
Instead, to dwell in whole love divine
And childly trust in the Saviour’s blessed word –
To grow in Him, our will to resign,
And move man’s heart as it ought to be stirred.
As the Child listened in reverent awe,
May we also hear Him and know:
Only by loving and heeding His law
Shall we godly and righteously grow.
And by accepting His love for ourselves –
His forgiveness for all our past sins –
We may enter heaven to commune as the twelve
As our life with Christ only begins!

The Unbound Word
2 Tim. 2:8-9
Abounding, holy, living free,
From spanned to spanned eternity,
Enduring through the lies of time,
Reigns the Word of God, sublime.
The Word of God is loosed with might;
Surrenders not to foes of right –
In chains, it proves the greater bind –
In affliction, crafts the braver mind.
The Word of God proves truer still;
The Word bends power to God’s will
And never can the Nations break
Whatever God’s kind breath has spake.
In heart and body, held, it strives
To carry beyond mere human lives;
To lift us over death and sea
To Heaven’s Height – where God doth be.
Hosea 4

The Wall is crumbled; the Remnant in shame –
Exiles mourning Jerusalem’s fame.
Destroyed are the gates; Its foundation alight.
And trouble swarms over to seal Remnant’s plight.
God’s curse hovers over a city’s forsake –
The Nation that threatened to stay in sin’s wake.
God’s judgment is stamped on a broken Gate’s frame.
Its inhabitants dreaded to uphold His Name.
God’s almighty hand that stayed a sea’s storm,
Raised up plant to prevent the Sun’s harm.
God Who permitted the Son to be still;
God Who has power of life and to kill;
God Who can never be wholly cast down,
Watched as His people fell beneath sin’s crown.
Fire is smoldering His Holy Walls.
Desolation crowing the heart that falls.
And the God of the Ages of infinite Life
Has wasted the wicked in one swipe of strife.
Our God Who holds Oceans in tidal forbear;
Our God Who the lilies gave silk-spun to wear;
Our God Who spoke light and gave moon its course;
Our God Who gave speed to the Eagle and Horse,
Has glanced upon Man and seen horror and hate.
So, tumbles His people and hope of the Gate!
Cry out in sorrow and pity the lost.
Mourn for the action that drives us to cost.
And pray to Our God of the heaven and earth
That His Holy commands will again bear our worth.

Hosea 7
Shine Your Light on me, O God,
To revive my dying soul;
Set Your fire alight, O Lord,
So I perceive Your righteous goal.
Let my ears again hear sound;
My hand again to serve –
Only will they serve again
At the Touch they don’t deserve.
My sin brings Your reproach, O God,
And my future daren’t be bright.
For only will I flourish yet,
O God, if You shine Your light!
My pride has brought a chasm between,
And my death is certainty.
And to the darkness I’ll succumb
If Your light stops to shine on me.
Capture me, O God, my Grace –
Ensnare me as a bird!
Captivate through shining Light;
Through the Truth of Your great Word.
Call, and send Your Mighty Wave
Of Power upon Life’s Sea.
And I’ll never dare to sin return,
Once Your light has shone on me.
